Star Trek Beyond already has a sequel planned, but producer J.J. Abrams won’t be replacing actor Anton Yelchin, who died tragically in an automobile accident in June, with another actor to fill the shoes of Chekov. When the sequel starts filming, Abrams has said the series’ producers will not recast Yelchin’s Ensign Pavel Chekov. “I can’t possibly imagine that,” Abrams told the Postmedia Network, “and I think Anton deserves better.” He’s not exactly sure how he’ll go about addressing Yelchin’s death within the films, though. “I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it,” Abrams replied when asked whether Chekov would be killed off in the next Trek film.
